Fixing Loving Eliot Groussé
035. Poem

Hunched over a library desk, Marina's fingers worked tirelessly over a slip of paper. Her eyes searched the paper for errors and her ears listened to loud Bach concertos through her headphones--she couldn't hear Eliot call for her. He had a deep set frown and scrunched up brows. He was already given a warning for being too loud that day, and didn't want to be told to leave, so he folded his arms and begrudgingly made his way past the carts of books.

Before he could get her attention, the librarian spoke to him, "Something I can help you with, M Groussé?"

"Tch. I don't need your help with anything, Hassir."

Hassir Mandell was the librarian for the 4th floor, and was a high school friend of Marina. Eliot hated all Marina's friends from high school, and for good reason: they abandoned her when she was kicked out of her home. After Marina was picked up by Eliot, her friends came back to her. Eliot thought this was disgusting and did all he could to prevent Marina from spending unnecessary time with any of them.

He tapped Marina on the shoulder and she jumped a little. She turned to see her lover and smiled. "Hey, Eliot. You done your research?"

He nodded his head and looked down at the paper in front of Marina. He raised an eyebrow and said, "What's that?" He took the seat next to her and rested his head in his palm to look at her sideways.

"It's a poem!"

"A poem?" He made a funny face. "That's it?"

"Yes! A poem I wrote for you!"

"Um... I'm thankful. How are your studies coming along?"

"Don't worry. I'm going to graduate with top marks." She leaned in and gave him a kiss on the lips. He smiled one of his rare-to-see smiles.

"Yes, I know, and I'm very proud of you." He stood and then kissed her on the forehead. "Let's go home. Read it to me on the way out."
